10 Houses Gutted By Fire

The second day of the Hari Raya caused heartbreak for 67 people at Kampung Nangka after a morning blaze destroyed eight houses and two houses slightly burned . The fire was started at about 4.30 am.

The blaze started in a kitchen belonging to a reporter from a English newspaper which was discovered by family members. One of the reporter's brother, Mohd Kadir sustained neck and hand injuries when trying to escape from the first floor of the house.

The  owner, Ishak 72 said he and his wife and seven children stayed in the house.  A neighbour shouted to alert them and by the time, Ishak woke up, he said the house had spread to the staircase. He shouted to the occupants on the first floor asking them to  leave. Ishak said nothing was saved from the house.

According to the Fire Chief Sibu, Mutalib said they received 4.52 am from Malacca. He said calls to 999  would be transferred to West Malaysia if the line is busy. Mutalib said two fire engines, one from Sg. Merah and one in central rushed to the scene. A 991 fire-engine was there.

The fight against the fire was hampered by low  water level and despite the houses along Rejang River, the water level was low but firemen managed to pump the water from the river.
A victim, Caroline who  worked as the Assistant medical officer said she moved here in June. She has three sons, the eldest aged 14 with her while the younger two went to visit her mother in Kuching.

Caroline said she woke up at about 4.30 and heard hissing noises at the back. She thought there were people who were fighting and after taking a look, she was shocked to see the fire. She picked up her sons school bags and asked her son to ran out with her. She did not save anything.

Mutalib said the cause and losses in the fire is still being investigated.

Bank Manager Murder: Remand Extended

A car salesman surname Tiong aged 26 and his girlfriend 31, were both ordered to be further remand for another seven days.

The salesman and his girlfriend, Ling, the wife of the deceased bank manager were arrested last Friday and Saturday.

The duo were alleged to hire hitmen to murder Ling's husband, a bank manager who was killed in his bedroom on June 14  at about1.30 pm.

ASP Yeo Chun Shyan who is the investigation officer applied for the  remand period to be extended to further investigate the case.

Bank Manager Murder: RM35,000 Job???

The main suspect, wearing green t-shirt  bringing police to his house to look for his clothes he wore the day of the killing. Police found the clothings but not the murder weapon.

As police investigate further into the Bank manager's  murder, they unearthed a plot allegedly planned by his 31-year-old wife and her male friend, a car salesman aged 26.

It was allegedly revealed that the the four suspects were hired to killed the victim. The four had been monitoring the movement of Stephen Wong for a while. They were allegedly paid over RM35000 to kill him and over RM25,000 to maim him.

It was alleged that the assassins had intended to kill him at a supermarket but was not successful as there were too many  people around.

They then decided to carry out the killing in his house to make it looked like a robbery.  The main suspect from  Deshon Road who is also a Rela member was alleged to climb over the fence to kill the victim.

Wong was stabbed to death in his bedroom in his house at Jalan Ulu Sg. Merah  on June 14 while his wife called a relative to tell an uncle that an intruder had killed her husband at about 1.30 am.

The salesman was arrested last Friday while the wife of Stephen Wong was arrested a day later. Yesterday police arrested four more suspects.

Wong and his wife had a son aged 3. The couple's marriage is on the rock.

Saman Terlalu Membebankan Rakyat, PAS Miri

Saman Polis Trafik Untuk Pesalah Ringan Terlalu Tinggi

MIRI - Isu kekurangan tempat parkir didalam bandaraya Miri perlu

parkir. Kadar saman trafik untuk kesalahan ringan seperti meletak
kenderaan ditepi jalan agak membebankan rakyat terutama sekali mereka

meringankan bebanan pihak pengguna.

kereta.

Kita mencadangkan agar pihak MBM segera menambahkan lagi tapak letak
kereta di kawasan tumpuan orang ramai seperti di pusat membeli belah,
pasar ikan,Tamu dan sebagainya.

Sekali lagi kita menyeru agar pihak Majlis Bandaraya Miri mencari

Police Traffic summons too high for minor offender

MIRI - The issue of lack of parking space in the Miri city should be
taken seriously by local authorities and the police traffic. If those
who want to work or shopping at the supermarket or the business center
of course they have to walk far to go to the place if the surrounding
area no longer exists parking space.

For the young and energetic there are no problems, but what about be
the fate of the elderly, small children and others if they have to
bring a lot of items purchased to reach the parking place away from
the shopping center?

These are questions that need to be considered by the Miri City
Council (MCC) before blaming the driver who had to park their cars
near or beside the business premises where they were shopping.

If the parking areas are adequate, no one would park their cars along
this road unless they were purposely looking for trouble. The police
traffic can take action on these people to issue a summons if they
persist and do not want to move their vehicles to the place they
deserve.

The public complain and grumbled because many of them have been
summoned by the police traffic due to parking outside the park. The
rate of traffic summonses for minor offenses such as parking along the
road somewhat burden, especially those with low income.

Not only the summons or compound cannot be reduced as before which can
be as low as RM30 but now the rate increased to RM150 - RM300 and
above.

We urged to the government and the police traffic can review the rate
of summons to be reduced as before, where the summons for minor
offenses can be reduced in order to lessen the burden of the consumer.

The attitude of some police traffic who took advantage by issuing
summonses is regrettable, especially in areas that are too difficult
to find parking. Police traffic on duty should control traffic by
giving instructions or a warning to drivers that parking along the
road that can block the traffic, not to sue them when a driver is not
in the car.

We propose that the MBM immediately increase parking lot in the public
focus area such as shopping centers, fish markets, Tamu and others.

Once again we urge that the Miri City Council look for alternative
ways to solve this problem immediately. We do not want to be victims
of police traffic summons due to lack of parking on the business
premises and shopping centers in the city and so on.

Yours faithfully

Bank Manager Murder: Drama at courthouse

Deceased bereaved family... We hope she would help into the investigation

Detained... Remanded until Friday

There were tensions in Sibu court house this morning when the wife of the Bank manager, Ling was brought for remand.

Her husband, Stephen  Wong aged 31 was killed in their bedroom on June 14 after being stabbed numerous times on his neck and upper torso. Ling had called a relative at about 1.30 am claiming that an intruder went into their bedroom and attacked her husband.

The 31-year-old, handcuffed was remanded for five days in the Chamber at 8.30 am. Her elder sister and brother clashed with reporters who crowded the court house asking them to spare some humanity and told them to stop taking their sister's photos or they would sue.

They then complained to their lawyer, Sempurai anak Petrus Ngelai who advised them that the reporters too have a job to do.

Meanwhile, the family of the banker numbering over 10 were also at the courthouse. The brother of Wong said the family wanted to know the truth behind his brother's senseless killing. He said he also hoped that Ling is not a party to the killing and she as a wife should assist the police to get the murderer.

He said they are now leaving the matter to the authorities to deal with it. The brother said since the death of Stephen, their parents who are still mourning had not been able to run their hawker's stalls business. The parents, he said, were too overcome with grief even to go out of the house.

When Ling was brought into the chamber, her sister kneel down and prayed. When she was brought out, she took a jacket and covered Ling's head.

Wong's sister was overhead saying that if Ling did not do anything wrong, she should not be afraid to show her face.

The couple had a three year-old son who is with the maternal grandparents. After the death of Stephen, Ling who also worked in a bank had asked to be transferred to her bank in Kuching bringing along her son. She had started work in Kuching on August 1.

Both Ling and a car salesman who was arrested two days ago would be brought to court this coming Friday.

PAS Miri: Tiada Parkir, Pemandu Jadi Mangsa Saman Trafik

Parking Shortage, Driver Become Victims of Traffic Summons

MIRI - Shortage of car parking at the Miri City caused many drivers parking in the hallway or just off the road become victims of traffic summonses.

Since there is no car park for parking, and many are less fortunate imposed by the Traffic Police summonses compound because placed against the vehicle traffic alerts.

Among the areas that lack car park is around Bintang Street Mall Miri, the supermarkets, fish market, Tamu area and also almost all the commercial areas in the city of Miri.

This area should be increased more car park area especially when the peak hours, many are forced to park their vehicles at the road junctions and also at the roadside.

The Traffic Police should control the traffic is not just waiting for the drivers park their cars there, then sue the traffic offenders when there is no driver in the vehicle.

Compound rate of traffic summons also too high for minor offenders, such as parking in the hallway way. Compounds should be reduced as low rm30 as before but now there is no appeal can be made even if the offender to pay earlier than the appointed day.

Does the government did not think be the fate of the less fortunate who have to pay too expensive for committing minor offenses such as the above?

If they are committing a grave offense to cause an accident or death, we do not dispute that but for this minor offense certainly excessive and should be reviewed.

Traffic Police should carry out to control the traffic flow not to sue them that parking at the wrong place because the task can be done by local authorities (PBT).

We suggest that this matter should be reviewed; the local council should make more car park area for vehicles in the city center because it is not easy to find parking during the peak hours and the Traffic Police should also understand why there is some parking outside to the parking area is not intentionally, but they had to due to lack of car park in the city of Miri.

If you follow the real rules of course, Traffic Police will continue to sue them out of parking in the car park such as places of worship, public areas assembly and so on.

Hope that this matter gets the attention and review from the local authorities and Traffic Police, so that do not burden their financial needs, especially during festivals.

Yours faithfully

Bank Manager Murder: Police Arrest Victim's Wife

The 31 year-old wife of the slain bank manager in Sibu was arrested this morning at the Sibu police station at about 10 am to facilitate investigation into the murder of her husband.
The  woman was detained and to be brought for remand tomorrow.

Stephen Wong aged 31 was found with stab wound on his neck and had stab wounds on his head and body in their house at Ulu Sg. Merah.
Wong was a rising star in the banking business and was one of the youngest bank manager.

Police had initially thought it was a robbery when the wife of Wong called a relative telling him that her husband was attacked at about 1.30 am on June 14.

Yesterday, police arrested a male friend of the wife, a 26-year-old car salesman after months of investigation.

Ling was called to the police station and she was arrested when she arrived.

Bank manager murder: Car salesman remanded

Police have arrested a 26- year-old car salesman on the suspicion of murdering Wong King Kui, the manager of Sibu's Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation  on June 15 this year.

The suspect was a friend of the deceased's wife. He was arrested yesterday afternoon in his house and remanded today for seven days under Section 302 of the Penal code.

Wong was stabbed to death in his house at Jalan Ulu Sg. Merah. According to his wife who claimed to be alone with him, her husband had returned at about 11 pm. She saw a man running out of her bedroom at about 1 am.

She saw her husband bleeding profusely from wounds on him and called a relative. When an ambulance arrived, Wong was already dead.

The police had came under criticism for not arresting any suspect although Sibu OCPD ACP Shafie Ismail said they were waiting for DNA result. It was believed that the result of the DNA had been finalised.

Odd job labourer thanked SUPP

An odd job worker, Jee  Lee Muk thanked the SUPP Youth for attending to his plight. Jee said his house at Lorong 22, Stampin resettlement area was on the brink of collapse due to soil erosion.

After hearing of his plight, SUPP Youth secretary general, Wilfred Yap went with the Welfare officials and see how best they could do to help.

This afternoon, a sum of RM2,500 from the Welfare department was handed to Jee to do repair work on his house.

Jee said he is thankful that SUPP had been fast in coming to his aid.

On another issue, Wilfred hit out at the DAP for accusing him of not helping the Kampung Stampin residents where a chapel, a kindergarten and a community centre was to be taken down as they were sitting on state land.

The land had been alienated to a private company for construction of a private hospital.

Wilfred said the villagers wanted a dialogue session with the private company and he had written in. He said he had also spoke on the matter on July 9 at a BN meeting at PBB headquarters.

"As the opposition had handed over a petition to the party concerned, I would not get involved in the matter. If three months down the road, nothing is done, then I will do what I can to give a helping hand," he added.

He said the DAP always claimed credit when things were done by the SUPP which is grossly unfair to them.

Buku Jingga a gimmick, Tan Kai

SUPP Youth Chief Tan Kai is both pleased and grateful to Padugan state assemblyman YB Wong King Wei when the latter admitted that content of Buku Jingga is infact just generality of PR’s policies.

In a press conference today, Tan Kai said this is solid evidence that Buku Jingga has clearly not addressed the issues of UEC’s recognition, setting up of new Chinese Independent Secondary Schools and Chinese Primary Schools.

He said Wong kept referring to Buku Jingga, pointing out that Buku Jingga recommends MQA (Malaysian Qualifications Agency) to verify UEC’s qualification. How can this be seen equally as ‘recognizing UEC’? The answer is a definite NO because it has to go through a verification process (which no one can be assured of its outcome).

“If the radical PAS takes over the ruling power, it is worried that this is nothing but a dream that will never come true for the Chinese community in the end. Haven’t we notice the fact that, whenever the oppositions sense that election is near, they would go all out in making empty promises that even themselves are incapable of realizing? Recognition of UECs, systematic allocations for Chinese schools…etc., these are the issues that have been fully exploited by DAP over the years, where in real, it is stated so differently in their Buku Jingga. Inspite of that, Buku Jingga is suggesting fairness to schools of all origin, in a very generalized manner,” he added.

Tan pointed out that Buku Jingga has not stated clearly that its policy will assure the rights and benefits of Chinese Primaries and Independent Secondary Schools, so how can DAP guarantee piece of mind to the Chinese community at large?

He added that the DAP did not stand firm and oppose PAS’ plan to implement Hudud law in Malaysia and DAP did not say anything when Kedah’s State Legislative Assembly passed the ruling in which under an amendment to the Mufti and Fatwa (Kedah Darul Aman) Enactment 2008 (Section 22A), future fatwa issued by the Kedah Mufti or Fatwa Committee  cannot be challenged in court. DAP of Selangor kept an eye shut when patrons to the cinemas are to be seated separately according to genders.

According to him there are many unanswered questions regarding Buku Jingga.

3 Kilometer Nightmare in Jalan Sungai Maong

A three kilometer stretch of road along Jalan Sg. Maong need immediate repairs to prevent accidents as it was filled with pot holes, dusty and uneven due to the constant lorries ferrying in and out of the road.

In a press conference today, State Assemblywoman, Christina Chiew said there has been so many complaints made on the road but it appeared that the authorities were taking a slow attitude in repairing the damaged roads.

She said despite complaints made in February, the contractor's licence to allow the lorries to ferry the road was extended after it expired in end of July.

Chiew said she contacted the council and was told that the issuance of licence to use the road comes under Land and Survey.

She said when she checked with the Land and Survey, she was told that the council never give them any feedback on the condition of the road thus they renewed the licence to continue using the stretch of road.

Urging authorities to put aside their differences, Chiew said she will write again this time to the Padawan council, the JKR and the Land and Survey asking for the roads to be repaired.

Chong Irked by "Haram sokong DAP"

A national paper headlines has irked the DAP with MP for Kuching, Chong Chieng Jen condemning such concept of journalism.

Chong in a press conference today said the headline in the National paper smirk of race and religious at play by the Barisan Nasional.

He said the DAP had always made it clear that they would disagreed on Malaysia being turned into an Islamic country of Hudud laws. "This we have made it clear to all races concern as our political struggle is along the Federal constitution," he said.

Chong said unlike SUPP, they could not make a proper stand in the face of BN leaders.

On another issue, Chong said he is still waiting for SUPP Youth chief, Tan Kai, Youth secretary general, Wilfred Yap and Padawan Chairman, Lo Khere Chiang on the Transparency International corruption perception index where Malaysia dropped to 60th position. He said he also wanted the three to answer why the Sarawak State government allow the BN leaders family to monopolise the road repair and bridges contracts.

"In today's papers, it was said there is a cement shortage affecting the contractor's work. This is due to monopoly problem. I want the three to answer why SUPP allow such thing to happen," he said.

Chong also wanted them to answer why hundreds of thousands of acres of state land was owned by the BN leaders and families.

Meanwhile, State Assemblyman for Padungan, Wong King Wei said he was not surprised by the contradiction comments made by the BN coalition parties.

He said in the papers today, SUPP urged Chinese not to support DAP as the DAP are for Hudud law. However, in the National papers, the Malays were told not to support DAP as they do not support Hudud law.

Wong said the BN should make up their minds instead of giving conflicting views to suit different audiences.
