With just a murder happening in Sibu yesterday, a woman was almost killed by a robber who strike a sharp object at her face.
The armed robbery occurred this morning at about 5 am when a kampua mee stall owner aged 60 and her husband also 60 went to start their day's business at Lanang Road.
The victim Tan said she saw a motorcyclist wearing full face helmet riding around her shop twice and told her husband who was opening the coffee shop door. As Tan was carrying food items into the shop, she realised that the man had followed her in.
The man armed with a sharp object slashed at Tan and Tan who was lucky to pick a bag of rice on the floor covered herself. Rice was then sprayed all over the floor. The robber not giving up slashed again and this time it cut into the right arm of Tan.
Tan's husband was shouting and looking for weapons to defend his wife but the robber had by then snatched a gold necklace from Tan and took her handbag before fleeing.
Her husband rushed her to a nearby private hospital but the nurses said the doctors were not in so he rushed her to the Sibu general hospital
Tan was warded for further attention.
Dudong State Assemblyman, Yap Hoi Leong who arrived at the hospital to see Tan hoped that police would really beef up more security in Sibu as it was known to be a crime prone town.
