A man survived after passer by rushed through time to get him out of the wreck of his car before it exploded into flames yesterday along Mile 22, Jalan Kuching/Serian near Tapah. The man was pinned inside the mangled car.
Rumi ak Kanchu, 27, a trainer from the Serian National Service was on his way home to Kuching at about 7 pm when his car lost control, hit the divider, flipped a few times and ended near the road shoulder.
Having dislocated both arms in the accident and crying with pain, passer by saw the wreck and got Rumi out as he was pinned between the steering wheels and the dash board.
An eye-witness who had joined in to assist Rumi said they saw the car going out in smoke and smashed the driver's window before getting the victim out of the wreck.
Immediately after he was brought to safety, a few explosions were heard, said the eye witness.
Fire and Rescue services department and a 991 ambulance rushed to the scene. The fire was put out and police were later called to control the long string of traffic jam as motorists slowed to take a look.
Rumi was rushed to the Sarawak general hospital in serious but stable condition.
