SOCSO Open Service Counter in Mukah

MUKAH: The social security organisation (Socso) is the latest important government agency to open its door in Mukah Town.

Though it is just a service counter, but, its presence in this town is very much lauded and welcome by the progressive people of Mukah.

Mukah Resident Haji Saudi Haji Narani expressed his special appreciation for the invaluable initiative of the agency to provide the best service for the people of Mukah by opening its counter at Mukah Division Labour Office (same block with Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri).

He added that the opening of its service center, here, was the manifestation of its intention of to give a better service for the convenience of the people in this division, in general

“With the opening of the center in Mukah Town,  the people of Mukah need not have to go all the way to Sibu or other nearest divisions for doing any transactions related to Sosco,” he said.

Saudi also called upon the employers or employees in the division to come forward to the centre especially when they were in the dark of the services or benefits rendered by the organization.

Pengusaha Gerai Makan Taman Seroja Mohon Tandas Awam, PAS Miri

Gambar Gerai Makan Taman Seroja waktu malam

Taman Seroja Foods Stall Request for Public Toilet for Businesses and Customer Relieve
Picture of Taman Seroja Footstalls at night

It has been an ageing for Taman Seroja food stalls at the park site in Miri City are not given a basic facilities such as public toilets. Recently we received complaints from businesses and the customers in the Taman Seroja where diners said they did not provide a public toilet.
They or a customer want to defecate or urination had to cross the street to the toilet nearby hotel and community hall to relieve their desire.
If raining or night time it is difficult for businesses or customers especially women and children to give up their desire for a toilet bowl because the toilets is far away from the food stalls.
Besides the cleanliness and safety for businesses and consumers, especially women and children who are forced to cross a busy street with traffic. When the toilet is far away from the public view it can attract a mishap which could occurs such as snatching and the like especially to the woman and the children who goes alone to the toilets at night.
We suggest that the authorities such as the Miri City Council (MCC) to take the initiative to build a public toilet at the Taman Seroja Foods Stall because it is one of public eating places that have long resided in Miri City.
We request that the authorities, such as Miri City Council (MCC) should be responsible for providing facilities to the public. If the MCC to approve the allocation of funds to build the toilet, we from PAS want to work together with MCC to find out a qualified contractor at a reasonable price to build the toilet later. This is subject to the approval of the MCC for the design and safety and suitability of these toilets in public places.
Toilet facilities are so important for the public and we request the authorities should take immediate action to solve the problem from prolong. Do not let the undesirable thing happen than start busy to find out a solution. React immediately for the safety and the welfare for all.

Bruno Manser takes advantage of simplicity, good nature of Penans

by Mulu View

A lot of questions are being asked on the legal status of the so-called Bruno Manser Fund based in Switzerland that has been hogging news mainly in the Internet and social media. It carries the name of a person, who vanished many years ago in the dense rainforests in the interior of Sarawak namely the region of Batu Lawi in Ulu Baram.

Obviously, Bruno Manser Fund was set up merely to capitalize on his notoriety to damage the reputation of Sarawak and undermine the political stability and harmony of the state. Hence, its activities deserve a strong condemnation by the State Legislative Assembly

Regardless of its legal status, Bruno Manser Fund has sinister motives and agenda against Sarawak. It has been making relentless efforts in spreading falsehood, baseless allegations against the State Government with the primary objective to undermine the prevailing economic and politic stability in the State. In short, BMF has been interfering in the internal affairs of the State.

The irony was Bruno Manser had been telling the world that the rainforests in Sarawak were in the process of being destroyed. He reportedly entered the dense, natural forests near Batu Lawi to evade Police arrests for overstaying and instigating the local people to hold blockages in timber areas, and never re-emerge from the area. Presumably, the rainforests, which he had claimed to be on the verge of being destroyed, destroyed him instead. Or he could totally be transformed into an Orang Utan.

Bruno Manser was a product of the "hippy age" of drugs and free sex. Limited literature available about him details the fact that he was disillusioned with the rapid changes in his own homeland of Switzerland. He spent much of his youth in the Swiss Mountains where he turned to "Yoga" as a means to escape from the realities of life and in an endeavor to find "Nirvana".

Bruno Manser entered Sarawak on the pretext of carrying out research as an anthropologist. Obviously, he took full advantage of the simplicity and good nature of the Penans. Stories were abounding that he often took some young Penan girls to stay with him in the local resorts.  There were also stories of him fathering illegitimate children through trial marriages being practiced by the community. He overstayed in Sarawak in breach of his visit pass.

Bruno Manser did not tell the world that he had been staying illegally in Ulu Baram and Ulu Limbang. Instead, he tried to project himself as the champion of the neglected Penan community. He made himself globally known by creating stories about the negative effects of the so-called excessive loggings on the traditional way of life of the Penans.

Obviously, he was exaggerating the so-called effects of logging on the Penans in his propaganda campaigns against loggings in Ulu Baram and Limbang in order to get international attention and support.  He did not tell the world that Sarawak has been practicing selective loggings in strict adherence to Sustainable Forests Management policy as recommended by International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO).

The State Assemblyman for Batu Danau, Paulus Palu Gumbang, in his speech during the debate on the opening speech of the Yang diPertua Negeri, says Bruno Manser during his stay with the Penans did nothing to assist them in their socio- economic progress as well as their integration with society.

He overstayed in Sarawak in breach of his visit pass. He did not tell the world that he had been over staying illegally in Ulu Baram and Ulu Limbang. Instead, he tried to project himself as the Champion of the neglected Penan community.

He made himself globally known by creating stories about the negative effects of the so-called excessive logging on the traditional way of life of the Penans.  Obviously, he exaggerated his stories on the effects of loggings on the Penans in his propaganda campaigns against the activities in Ulu Baram and Ulu Limbang in order to get international attention and support.

The Assemblyman, who was a former director of Information, called on the Government to take necessary steps to monitor and curb the unhealthy activities of unscrupulous people by using the Internet to spread lies and falsehood against individuals, mainly politicians to bring them down.

He says their activities can be considered as a menace to the society as they are using the bogs and social network, which are particularly popular among young people, to spread lies and baseless allegations against the government, the leaders in particular.

The Member for Lambir, Ripin bin Lamat says there is no reason for local NGOs to consider holding illegal demonstrations to press for their demands just like the behaviors of the Red and Blue shirt groups in Thailand. Such activities are alien to the local customs and traditions with the characteristics of being peaceful and friendly.

Instead, the groups must respect the decisions of the people, who have given a mandate of more than a 2/3 majority in the just-concluded 10th State elections, to the State Barisan Nasional being by the Chief Minister, Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud to lead and govern the State towards realizing the objectives of vision 2020 and Sarawak Maju 2030

He accuses DAP, with its slogan “Let Change” of being blind to the reality of tremendous changes taking place in the State since September 16, 1963, more so since the mid 80s.  Obviously, DAP cannot accept the success of the previous leaders of Barisan Nasional and the current Chief Minister, Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, who has been making conscientious efforts to bring about development and positive changes to Sarawak with his development philosophy of the Politics of Development.

Ripin bin Lamat reminds the unfriendly NGOs that freedom in the democratic system of government has its limit.  It should not exceed the limit to touch on sensitive issues that relate to race or religion or make unfounded allegations that can disrupt the harmony, unity and stability of the country.

PAS Miri Dakwa PR Dahului Polisi Mesra Wanita

Ketua Penerangan Dewan Muslimat PAS Kawasan Miri

Rumah Nyalu Tagih Janji Di DUN Jepak

Nadia Adeela

Koperasi Komuniti Melanau Dalat Berhad

DALAT:  The unsuccessful story of the first cooperative in the 1970s failed to discourage the progressive people of Dalat District to come up with another cooperative, recently.

Mooted by an enterprising member of the Persatuan Komuniti Melanau Dalat (PKMD), Md Saiful Sakim, the cooperative is called Koperasi Komuniti Melanau Dalat Berhad(KKMDB).

It is learnt that most of the pioneer members are from the PKMD which was formed through the social website Facebook by the Dalatians all over the state.

According to a board member of KKMDB Major(rtd) American Wayne, currently the association has 1794 members.

“Currently, the members of the association are  all over the state, and I strongly believed that most of them would participate in the cooperative.  Though it seems that the cooperative are now mostly from PKMD, but, it is open to every Melanau community from the area with a minimum share of RM100,” he said.

He did not denied that there some skeptical voices heard when the matter was highlight in the facebook soon after the formation of the pro-tem committee.

“Personally, I have the confident in this one because it is led by those who had wealth of experiences in the matter, especially Saiful who also leads the ex-servicemen cooperative in Kuching. Indeed, he himself is also a  very enterprising man by operating his own workshop. It is common to hear some were for it and some were skeptical-maybe due to the past experienced,” added American.

The noble intention of the group was about to materialize with the formation of its pro-tem committee at Dalat Community Hall over the weekend, with Saiful was named as the Pro-tem chairman.

And the Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department cum Dalat State Assemblywoman, Datin Hajah Fatimah Abdullah who officiated at the formation meeting praised Saiful and the gang for their initiative.

The objective of the cooperative is to improve  the economic status of the members  and the people of Dalat in general.

It will focus on three local revenues such as  selling/buying of sago, mini-shop, retail,  wholesale  and also transportation(lorry, trailer, bus and van).

The formation meeting was supervised by the officers from  Malaysia Cooperative Commission for Sibu/Kapit Region.

The various benefits to be enjoyed through the formation of cooperative are micro financing, create jobs and business opportunities, maximizing the usage of local resources, could improve the social capital and human capital and be able to change the economic and social status of the members and contributing towards the prosperity of the community in general.

Hence, it is hoped that the people of Dalat would make themselves available for that golden opportunity by considering it as a benchmark towards a more lucrative venture in the future

Difficulty of indigenous businesses trading at the bus stop kiosks in Miri
We PAS Miri have received complaints from the indigenous small businesses in Miri City that is too difficult for them to get a lot or place of business such as kiosks at bus stops that were already built along the main road to Miri center.

They urged the relevant authorities do justice to the small indigenous businesses so that they are given the opportunity or the space for business at the kiosk at the bus stop. Bumiputera Business Association Miri (PPBM) should be concerned about the isolation of indigenous business problems from the current development in Miri city.

Just of because the reason of the cost of the rent is too expensive as a result the application of the small indigenous businesses rejected by the relevant authorities.

If possible, let the rental place according to the location or center of attention of the public. Do not just monopolize by one group alone to isolate the less fortunate.

Many small businesses get frustrated due to lack of attention from the parties concerned.

We PAS are ready to assist the small businesses to the extent of our ability to express their problems to the media for the attention of those concerned.
The authorities should act fairly to all regardless of race, religion and political beliefs for the betterment of their welfare for all.

Bruno Manser Fonds owes explanation to Penans how funds are being spent

by Sarawak Monitor

A lot of things have been said about Bruno Manser Fonds raising money on the pretext of helping the poor Penans. But until today there is no evidence to support the Penans are getting assistance from Bruno Manser Fonds.

The facilities like school, clinics and others that can been seen in Penan settlements have all been provided by the Government being led by Barisan Nasional Government. Not even a single toilet, let alone a clinic, school and other facilities are being built by the so-called Bruno Manser Fonds. The question is what has Bruno Manser Fonds done for the Penans?

The question is where are all the funds that they have been collected for the so-called victimized Penans over the years gone to?

The State Assemblyman for Telang Usan, Denis Ngau, in his speech during the debate on the speech of the Yang di Dertua Negeri, says a lot of things have been said about Bruno Manser Fond raising money on the pretext of helping the poor Penans. But until today the Penans are yet to know where are all the funds that have been collected in their names have gone to?

Dennis Ngau says not many people have met Bruno Manser. He met him in the 70s when he came to the visit their Kampung in the 70s. He can recall very well how he looked like. This guy called Bruno Manser, who claimed to be the champion of the Penans or the champion against exploitation of natives cannot be trusted. He does not appear to be a man with credibility.

All concerned Sarawakians should step up efforts to refute all the criticisms by foreign individuals and NGOs relating to Forest and Forest industry in the State.  Indisputably, the industry has contributed immensely to Sarawak's development to what it is today.

The industry is still a major player and contributor to socio-economic development and a major revenue earner for the State's Gross Domestic Products. It would do the State well if all the elected representatives of the people including those from the opposition could browse through some of the literature on the timber industry and be acquainted with some of the facts and figures that underscore the growth and contributions of the industry.

The State Assemblman of Belawai, Datu Haji Len Talip, says after having spent more than 32 years dealing with Forest and Forest industry in the State, he should have the credibility to say that the Forest and Forest industry have contributed immensely to Sarawak's development to what it is today. Besides, as a teenager during his school holidays he worked in mangrove and peat swamp forests, sawmill, woodchip and plywood

He says the first phase of capital accumulation derived from the timber industry had seen many successful private sector timber operators plough back their investments to help develop the future of Sarawak. The timber companies, which have made money, are reinvesting in tree plantation and oil palm, which is a major contributor to the state economy. They are also reinvesting in property, infrastructure, education, social facilities and public amenities.  They are playing their roles as partners of progress in facilitating the socio-economic growth and development in Sarawak.

Datu Haji Len says the State is adhering strictly to Sustainable Forest Management Policy, which is being acknowledged by ITTO and a host of credible and reputable international organizations and NGO's as a model worthy of emulation by tropical timber producers. The fact that Sarawak still has 84% of her land mass under forest cover comprising primary, secondary  including State land and NCR and urban forests is testimony to the success of this policy.

He regrets that Sarawak still encounters a number of unfounded criticisms from some Western NGOs like Bruno Manser Fonds (BMF), Radio Free Sarawak and media as well as some politically aligned local NGOs.

For example, a British writer by the name of Claire Lee Castle, in her writings has been making stinging attacks on the timber industry. Obviously, she tries to reclaim the lost empire of Sarawakians. That is why she operates Radio Free Sarawak. She does not want us to be free. She is making Peter John Jaban @ Papa Orang Utan her stooge in the attacks against Sarawak.   Obviously, Sarawak should develop a strong proactive program to deny them the pleasure of seeing Sarawak and Sarawakians remaining backward and primitive.

He proposes the setting up of Bumiputera Trust Fund with the primary objective to provide capital to Bumiputeras to venture into commerce and industry. Over the years, the socio-economic divides between Bumiputera and non-Bumiputera as well as rural and urban population should be narrowed.

The equitable distribution of wealth remains the pre-requisite for sustained harmony and prosperity in our society. The source of funds could be drawn from the oil and gas, oil palm and hydro electricity sectors, which are mostly found in rural areas and the impacts are most felt directly.

He believes that the fight for the Bumiputera interests must be left to Bumiputras themselves. History has taught the people a very good lesson that if a group delegates the power to fight for their cause to others they will end up being losers. In this respect, the Bumiputras must ask themselves whether they can trust their brains to others, who do not know their welfare and interests.

Obviously, Bruno Manser Fonds (BMF), Radio Free Sarawak and others are interfering with the internal affairs with the common objective to destabilize the State and the country.

These people are not Sarawakians and do not have the mandate to speak for the people of Sarawak. They are self-appointed persons whose agenda is to damage our state and disrupt its peace and stabilityThey are envious of the development and economic progress made by the state.

They have persisted in making outrageous and false allegations against the State and government leaders. Their activities are tanamount to attack on our sovereignty and capabilities to conduct and manage our own affairs as an independent state.

Regrettably, there are also Sarawakians, who collaborate actively with them in London and even within the State under anonymous cover. They do so without any mandate from the people. Obviously, they become the mouth-pieces and stooges of foreign interests. Their treacherous activities deserve to be condemned by all Sarawakians.

They are traitors as their evil intention is to destroy Sarawak and perhaps re-colonize it.

It is high time that the people should stand up strongly against all foreign interferences.  Appropriate actions must be taken against those who collaborate with foreigners to smear the reputation of Sarawak, the State government and its democratically elected leadership. Their treacherous activities, if left unchecked, can seriously undermine the peace, harmony and progress of the State.

The State Assemblyman for Tarat, Roland Sagah Wee Inn, in his speech to table a motion of Thanks to the Yang di Pertua Negeri for his opening speech at the Legislative Assembly, is happy that despite all odds and market forces, Barisan Nasional government has been able to lay out policies and carry out development programs for the people and the State.

The policies and programs are well planned and with safety nets in the event of changes by market forces and other disturbances.  However, there are many other modern threats which the government needs to study and contend with. For example, even the minority groups are bent to overrun the government by undemocratic means.   The government should look into all their activities.

Mr Sagah says some of the social networks and blogs are being used to spread false allegations, lies and propaganda against the government.  They are being used to defame politicians and in some cases to threaten people using fictitious names. The government, through security agencies, should monitor all their activities to ensure that they will become threats to the people and the country.

Concept of 1Malaysia has noble objective

The people in Sarawak have been practicing the spirit of 1Malaysia, without thinking about it, as part of their cultural practices of goodwill and harmony.   Now, they value the Spirit of 1Malaysia, as being pioneered by the Prime Minister, Dato Seri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak, as the national movement with a very noble objective in the evolution towards building a strong and progressive Malaysian society towards the year 2020 and beyond.

The people in Sarawak fully realized the differences in religion, ethnicity, language and other backgrounds when the State joined the Federation of Malaysia on September 16,1963. However, over the years they together with their counterparts in Semenanjung Malaysia and Sabah have been able to forge similar interests to become the common rights.

For example, the people have been able to agree on a common language that can link all communities regardless of whether the community is in Ulu Baram or Bau in Sarawak or Keningau in Sabah with the rest of the country. Besides, the frequent visits made by Federal Ministers from Semenanjung Malaysia to Sarawak or Sabah help to promote their understanding of the local situation and environment.

The people in Sarawak equate the struggle for nation building to the flow of the water, with different colors, some like chocolate, red and other colors as the clean water get mixed with muddy ones from tributaries in the Ulu to the main river.  As the water flows further down to the sea, the colors become one color only.

As the process takes time, the people must be prepared to play bigger roles to accelerate its pace in the true spirit of 1Malaysia.  Indisputably, the country has been transformed from the situation of poverty to a sufficiently rich one during a period of 50 years through the process of development; the country is actually emerging as one of the most successful developing countries in this region.

The implementation of the 10th Malaysia Plan, one of the initiatives of the Federal Government, is to raise the levels of income of the people from the medium income to high income economy in order to uplift the standard of living of the people. Basically, it will create more high paying jobs for the people, who have good qualification, technical skills and professional experience.

In the era of politics when people talk about democracy without having a thorough understanding of it, there is a real danger that they may use the name to fight for personal agenda.  They do not care what will happen to the Rakyat as long as they can achieve their own objective.

The activities of such people can undermine the unity and solidarity of the Rakyat from time to time. Hence, it is incumbent upon political and community leaders to make conscientious efforts to safeguard the unity and solidarity of the rakyat.

Obviously, necessary steps to move in one direction must be made continuous in the true spirit of 1Malaysia and 1Nationality. More importantly, the movement must embrace the customs and traditions of various ethnic groups and all other differences.

In Sarawak, the various ethnic groups likened themselves to rivers, each with different colors, but as they flow to the mouth they become one color only. Hence, the State is motivated by the concept of where the rivers meet or the concept of   confluence of culture.

For example, the Bidayuh community has successfully gone through an evolution from an isolated to a more integrated community that can take care of the welfare and interests of members.

In the early days, members of the community lived in small settlements near hills and mountains in the middle of jungles or near river side next to hills and mountains. As they could not come down to towns by boats, they had to walk on foot to the nearest towns. For example, the people in some villages in Serian at one time had to walk for two to three hours from their villages to the town. Those in Padawan, Bau and Lundu had to face the same situation.

Handed down development

Undoubtedly, the Bidayuh community has been experiencing an evolution from being an isolated community to a more progressive and successful one. Generally, their rate of development is quite high. However, most of the development is being handed down by the government to them and not those being initiated by them.

This is insufficient for a community, which must have the capacity and capability to involve actively in the socio-economic development of the State and country in order to move shoulder to shoulder with others.  For this reason, the Bidayuh community must remain close with the government to develop their capability to exploit more opportunities that will come up through the process of development, which will be greatly accelerated towards the year 2020 and beyond.

Obviously, there must be a growing realization among the Bidayuhs, the new generations with the benefit of having good education in particular, that it is not to their advantages as members of a minority community to move forward without a clear sense of direction and not to move in the same direction with other communities.

It is incumbent upon the leaders to continue to work together to strengthen the unity and solidarity of the community, which has the background of being isolated and the members quarrelsome among them. Now the community is united in pursuing a healthy political for the benefits of members.  Its success is attributable to the politics of development as the philosophy of development.  The success must not only be sustained but strengthened in order to meet bigger challenges ahead.

For this reason, political and community leaders of the community must make continuous efforts to bring the Bidayuhs in a movement to showcase their culture in order to preserve and enhance their cultural identity. Only the Bidayuhs have the strength and the power to safeguard the unity and solidarity of the community.

Gawai Dayak Do The DAP Way

Kuching: With most Gawai celebration done in a big way in longhouses, Pending State Assemblywoman, Violet Yong celebrate her Gawai with villagers of Jalan Selangan Batu, Off Jalan Tun Razak with vegetarian food this afternoon.

A squatter area which was in existence for over 40 years, the 150 villagers of mixed race attended the drizzling Gawai do, some with their umbrellas opened.

Violet said besides celebrating Gawai with the Dayak villagers, she also wanted to thank the villagers for their support in the recent concluded election.

She called to the government to give the title to the squatters there as the place was already installed with electricity and water.

Dr. Tang Sie Hing who was also one of the invited guests to speak told the people to treat him and the people’s representatives as servants., much to amusement of those in attendents.

Giving an insight of his life as a doctor, Tang said he was queried by colleagues and friends almost daily of how he handle being in the ‘opposition’ camp after joining the DAP some three weeks ago.

Tang said life has been more meaningful as he gave his service not as a doctor but servicing the people through other means.

He said in the middle of the night, he did not receive only calls from patients but also Chong who was travelling and asked him to attend to the woes of the people.

“I have always been your servant. When I am a doctor, patients both rich and poor are my ‘boss’. As a politician now, I am more of a ‘servant’ as all the people are my boss. And as a citizen of Sarawak, I am, too a servant of our Chief Minister and as a Malaysian, I am a servant of the Prime Minister,” he said.

Tang said however, if the government is not transparent or clean, the people who are the ‘boss’ have the right to vote in the person they see fit to run the country in a fair manner to all, regardless of races or religions. "Bad Bosses', he added, can be changed by the power of the people through voting.

“The power of voting is in your hand. Stand up to your rights. I am not asking you to do something aggressive to take over the government but we must do so peacefully  in our rights as a voter,” he added.

Come parliament election, Tang called to the people to cast their votes wisely as the choice of the type of government they wanted lies in their hands.
